  1. The first modern trampoline was built by George Nissen and Larry Griswold around 1934 at the University of Iowa and Although these earlier devices were used for hundreds of years, modern trampolines were not invented until the 20th century.

  2. Trampolines are great ways to have your kids bouncing and having fun. They have also been used as therapy tools in autism and speech therapy

  3. We lived next to the Griswold's in Cedar rapids in the 40's and early 50's. My brother was taught well by Larry. Enough that he taught trampoline at the Y in the late 50's in the Chicago suburbs.

  4. I'm a nephew of Robert M. Fenner of Fenner/Hamilton trampoline Co. He's 97 yrs old now (11-25-21) and still works 7 days a week I was a member of the Fenner/Hamilton trampoline troupe ( late 1950's/ 60's)I was named after my uncle. George Nissen and Bob Fenner met in the Navy and after the Navy they traveled around the U S and Canada preforming their trampoline act at county fairs, grand openings, and entertaining different crowds along with stars such as the Ink Spots and Bob Hope before spilting up and developing their own line of trampolines and Gymnastic equipment
Robert Fenner has done more for the sport of gymnastics then any other person in the 20th century with over 17 patents on gymnastic equipment when Fenner/Hamilton became Gym Master Co.

    1. Hello! And thank you for your update on your uncle Bob Fenner. I do remember him and please share a hello from me. Yes, they met when at St. Mary's Flight School and performed together for several years. We certainly appreciate his many contributions to the sports of trampoline and gymnastics.
